Calling all green thumbs! Garden Project

garden Calling all green thumbs! Garden Project - To address food insecurity experienced by many of Barrie’s urban Indigenous people (and exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis), the Barrie Native Friendship Centre has formed an Essential Service Community Garden Team. They will be growing their own food and are encouraging others in their community to do the same. To help support this initiative, local churches and volunteers are invited to grow vegetable or edible flower seedlings at home in a sunny location. During the month of June, these seedlings will be collected and gifted to the Barrie Native Friendship Centre who will offer them to seniors, families and individuals.* Front porch Pick-ups and Drop-offs will be coordinated with physical distance protocols in place. If you are interested in participating, please email Selene Courjaud-Taylor selenetaylor3@gmail.com to sign up and receive further instructions.

*Donations of seeds, earth, pots, popsicle sticks and plant supports would also be appreciated.

Selene Courjaud-Taylor is an Honours Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work student at Laurentian University who is completing a 3rd-year placement at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre. She is also a member of Burton Avenue United Church’s Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
