Violet Donnelly

Violet Mary Donnelly (nee Unwin) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in her 90th year; predeceased by her beloved husband George Henry Donnelly. Violet was the cherished mother of Ila Donnelly, Dan Donnelly, Reina Donnelly (Dale Simpson) and Laura Johnston (Bruce).

She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Andrea Hryciw (Paul), Shawn Donnelly (Dana), Megan Donnelly (James), Evan Allary (Karen), Kristen Andrews (Lee, Lindsay Murphy (Darryl), Jordan Johnston (Candace). Also, remembered by Corby Simpson (Connie) and Dyson Simpson; and fondly remembered by her great grandchildren Mackenzie, Sydney, Kayla and Hunter.

Violet is fondly remembered by cousins Jim Twinning, Cheltenham, England, Brian Davies (Jean) Clitheroe, England, Dawn Grey (Colin), Rob (Natalie), Lauren, Gail Barnes (Heath), Olivia, Ross, Cheltenham, England and her numerous Unwin relatives in Canada and the United States. She will be missed by her many friends who knew and loved her.

Violet was an avid gardener, a life-long birder and an involved member of the Anglican Church her entire her life.

Violet cherished her time with family and friends with whom she created a lifetime of memories for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren through her love of theatre, reading, canoeing, and camping. Violet was active in the Barrie Brereton Field Naturalists, the British Club, the Red Hats, Parkview and Allandale Seniors Centres, Barrie Horticultural Society and the ACW. Mom enjoyed a vitality and quality of life that was remarkable and was thrilled to travel to many far off destinations that caught her interest.

While we mourn our loss, we celebrate the devotion and integrity with which Violet lived her life.

Visitation were held at St. Margaret's Anglican Church, 161 Hanmer St. W., Barrie, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., internment at St. John's Anglican Cemetary, Cookstown. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Barrie SPCA or the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario are appreciated.
